Dr. soni: YOUR LOCAL SHRINK THAT THINKS OUTSIDE THE BOX for your well being

Dr. Soni's motto is "Doing Good Before Doing Well" and strives to help people stabilize so they can continue a path of healing to really find ways to thrive, instead of just survive. Thus the values of the practice are to be of service in the most innovative ways possible and why, as a physician, he was one of the first in the Lawrence and KC Metro area to offer Deep TMS, IV Ketamine and Spravato. His drive to continue to research all the new ways to heal also fuels his love to teach and educated others.  He teaches in colleges and universities as well as offers educational opportunities in community settings.  When he is not seeing patients or teaching, you will find him cultivating his other passion, which is growing food.  His dream, to feed the community, is one that demonstrates his care for others and the community at large. Growing plants is healing, just as it is to give yourself the care of finding the best support for your mental well-being.  Dr. Soni collaborates with other physicians, nurses and therapists in his practice to give comprehensive care and collaboration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IV Ketamine and Sravato (Esketamine) that treats depression, anxiety, PTSD and other conditions?

IV Ketamine Therapy and Spravato is primarily used to treat conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD, especially when other treatments haven't been effective.

Ketamine therapy is a form of treatment that involves the use of ketamine, a medication that has traditionally been used as an anesthetic. In recent years, ketamine has gained attention for its potential therapeutic effects on a range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

During a ketamine therapy session, a patient is typically given a small dose of ketamine under medical supervision. The dose is carefully calibrated to produce a mild dissociative effect, which can help patients relax and feel more introspective. The therapy is typically administered intravenously, although it may also be given via intranasal spray or oral medication.

If you have tried several antidepressants before, then you know that it takes anywhere from four to six weeks to start seeing the full effect of the medicine—if you see any effects at all. Someone who is suicidal does not have the luxury of waiting several weeks for a medicine to kick in.

Ketamine infusions work by inducing the production of glutamate, a neurotransmitter in the brain. Abnormal levels of glutamate have been linked with depression. The glutamate leads the brain to form new connections and repair damaged ones, increasing its adaptability.

The new neural pathways—think of them as new roads in your brain—allow you to create more positive thoughts and, therefore, behaviors. This is compared to traditional antidepressants, which only work as long as they are in your system.

IV Ketamine is a cash based service as typically insurances do not pay for mental health use of this medication.

Spravato may be paid for if approved by your insurance for treatment resistant depression.

How does TMS therapy work?

TMS therapy works by using magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain, which can help improve symptoms of depression, particularly in cases where traditional treatments have not been successful.

Deep TMS™, is a unique, noninvasive treatment process developed and is FDA-cleared to treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in the US, and is CE

During the Deep TMS process, an electromagnetic field is activated by BrainsWay’s patented H-Coil technology, which is held inside a helmet apparatus fitted over the patient’s head. The helmet safely sends out magnetic pulses that are able to directly reach deeper, broader brain structures, successfully influencing their neural activity.

BrainsWay’s Deep TMS treatment is an advancement of the standard figure-8 TMS treatment, which was first introduced in 1985 as a form of noninvasive brain stimulation. It was later discovered that utilizing TMS’s magnetic fields to stimulate certain brain structures can help stabilize and regulate their neural activity, which was in turn found to relieve adverse symptoms of mental health conditions.

BrainsWay’s Deep TMS therapy goes one step further with its own patented technology and manages to directly stimulate brain structures found deeper in the brain, enabling treatment of mental health conditions beyond depression.

What is the process for Benzodiazepine Tapering?

The Benzodiazepine Tapering process involves a gradual reduction of medication under close medical supervision to ensure safety and minimize withdrawal symptoms.

Dr. Soni is commited to working with patients to manage their prescriptions of benzodiazipines is the most compassionate and responsible way. he will prescribe when appropriate, conservatively and with consent.  Thus he has pledged to raise awareness around prescribed benzodiazepine injury; provide a voice to the patients who are suffering, and facilitate a collaboration with patient to work with the patient to taper safely.

“The treatmentI I am receiving with dr. soni has been a transformative experience.  I almost gave up as I had been to others without any real improvment.  Dr. Soni changed medcation that was creating side effects and I was able to start feeling significantly better after working with him for a few months.  I am now considering OTHER innovative therapies like spravato or IV Ketamine as I would love to eventually not have to take medication. i am so grateful for my renewed sense of hope and well-being.”
